Starting October 6th, Iceland’s flagship airline, Icelandair, is planning to operate three weekly flights from Keflavik International to Miami, Florida.
As reported in the Miami Herald, the connection marks Iceland’s 19th destination in North America, with others including Portland, Nashville, and Denver. The flight to Miami will last eight hours and cost approximately $549 for a single fare.
The flights will utilise Icelandair’s new Airbus A321LR aircraft. It is the first time the airline has purchased an Airbus since its founding 87 years ago. (Coincidentally, the plane can fit 187 passengers—22 in business class and 165 in economy.)

Trading sunshine for snowflakes
Flying on Icelandair’s direct flights to Orlando, Florida is a popular winter escape for Icelanders in dire need of sunlight. Alternatively, Floridians often travel to the land of ice and fire in winter, soaking in its frozen landscapes and cool climate.
The new Miami connection will offer both sets of travellers fresh vacation options until March 2026.
The airline will hope this new connection might help turn around their recent financial woes. Icelandair reported losses of $20 million for 2024, though did see improvements in the last three months of the year. In total, Icelandair transported a record 4.7 million passengers in 2024, which is 9% more than in 2023.
