A person has died following a serious assault at a home in Kópavogur on Sunday. Police have arrested several people in connection with the case and are investigating the death as a homicide.
The victim was taken to Landspítali hospital following the attack in Kársnes, a residential neighbourhood in Kópavogur, immediately south of Reykjavík. Police later confirmed that the victim died at the hospital on Sunday afternoon.

Several Arrested
Police initially arrested one person shortly after the assault. Several more people were subsequently arrested during police operations in eastern Reykjavík.
Vísir reported a substantial police presence at Gnoðarvogur in Reykjavík at around 5 PM, where at least two people were seen being led away by officers. Police have not publicly specified how many people are now in custody or what connection each of those arrested may have to the killing.
Capital Region Police said the investigation is receiving the force’s highest priority and that no further information would be released for the time being.
The authorities have not released the identity of the victim or those arrested, and no motive has been made public.
Homicides are comparatively rare in Iceland, although an unusually high number of killings in 2024 prompted concern about violent crime in the country. Eight people were killed in seven separate cases that year.
