    Ungewissheitsstufe wegen Katla-Gefahr

    Die isländische Polizeibehörde und die Polizei von Südisland haben wegen der anhaltenden seismischen Unruhe im Vulkan Katla die Ungewissheitsphase für den Zivilschutz ausgerufen. Der Wissenschaftsrat beim isländischen Zivilschutz hat heute Nachmittag ein entsprechendes Papier an die Presse gegeben.

    Demnach ist der Kontingentplan für einen möglichen Vulkanausbruch am Mýrdalsjökul aktiviert worden. Die Ungewissheitsphase bedeutet, dass eine Folge von Ereignissen losgegangen ist, welche in naher Zukunft zu einer Naturkatastrophe führen können. Überwachung, Bewertung und Untersuchung der Lage werden verstärkt.

    Seit dem 29. September war die seismische Aktivität stetig angestiegen. Bei einem Treffen des Wissenschaftsrates beim Zivilschutz am Nachmittag wurde die seismische Aktivität auf Magmabewegungen in der Caldera zurückgeführt werden.

    Es gibt drei mögliche Szenarien:

    – die seismische Aktivität geht zurück ohne weitere Konsequenzen
    – eine Gletscherflut ergiesst sich nach einem kleinen Ausbruch aus dem Gletscher
    – es gibt in der Katla einen Vulkanausbruch, welcher die Oberfläche des Gletschers erreicht und eine Gletscherflut mit Aschefall verursacht
    – weitere Szenarien können nicht ausgeschlossen werden.

    Für Reisende im Umfeld des Vulkans, insbesondere in Nähe der Flüsse, wurde eine Warnmeldung herausgegeben, berichtet RÚV.

    Der Flugfarbcode für die Katla wurde von grün auf gelb geändert. Das bedeutet, dass der Vulkan erhöhte Unruhe zeigt.

    Inzwischen wurde auch der Zuweg zum Sólheimajökull geschlossen, die Gletscherlagune ist ein beliebter touristischer Ort. Auch Gletscherwanderungen während der Ungewissheitsphase sind polizeilich verboten. Mitarbeiter der Polizei sind heute Nacht am Mýrdalssandur unterwegs, um sicherzugehen dass keine unwissenden Camper dort übernachten, berichtet RÚV.
