Inga Birna Ársælsdóttir First Icelandic Woman to Earn Black Belt in Jiu-Jitsu

Inga Birna Ársælsdóttir has become the first Icelandic woman to earn a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, MMA Fréttir reports. Inga has been recognised as one of the best female fighters in the country in recent years.

Two other jiujiteiros, Bjarki Þór Pálsson and Magnús Ingi Ingvarsson, also received black belts at the ceremony, which was presided over by Gunnar Nelson, Iceland’s most famous MMA fighter, at RVK MMA gym earlier this week. Two purple and three blue belts were also granted.

Only 20 Icelanders have earned black belts in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
