The owner of the forgotten ATM cash has been found mbl.is reports. The man, named Marcin, made a withdrawal from an ATM in South Iceland on Thursday night, but forgot to take his money with him.
Two young men were behind the man in line at the ATM, realized what had happened, and ran after him with his money. Unfortunately, he got in his car and drove away before they could reach him. The honest Samaritans then took the man’s cash to the police station in the hope that they could help return it to its rightful owner.
“Marcin came [to the station] earlier and got his money…” wrote Suðurnes police on Facebook. “He asked for the phone number of the boys who found his money. And he’s going to call them.”
Having received a number of suggestions from the public that they simply find out from the bank who had made the withdrawal, police went on to clarify that “we know how ATMs work” but due to bank security and privacy protocols, “we have no authorization to get information from the bank system except with a court order.”
