A man currently in custody suspected of killing his brother claims to have no memory of the night due to drunkenness, RÚV reports. “He says he woke up in the morning at the scene and could not really comprehend what on earth had happened,” his lawyer Ólafur Björnsson stated.
Ragnar Lýðsson was found dead on the morning of 31 March in Árnessýsla county, Southwest Iceland at his brother’s farm. He had been visiting along with their third brother, who is physically disabled following a stroke. The third brother had gone to bed, and “no one knows what happened after that,” the defendant’s lawyer stated.
The defendant himself called police when he became aware of his brother’s death. He and the third brother were arrested at the scene, but the latter released the same day. The defendant remains in custody.
Police announced yesterday the victim’s body showed signs of trauma which led to death and the brother in custody is suspected of manslaughter.
The defendant’s lawyer has appealed for his release “given that he alerted the police himself and did not interfere with anything at the scene.”
