In Statistics Iceland’s recent list of the most common names given to newborns in Iceland last year, Aron tops the list for boys and Katrín for girls.
Þór was number one as a second name for boys, followed by Freyr, both of whom are old Norse gods. Máni, which means ‘moon,’ came third, ruv.is reports.
For girls, María was the most popular second name, followed by Rós, the Icelandic word for ‘rose.’
The most common name among Icelandic men is Jón, followed by Sigurður and Guðmundur. For women, Guðrún is the most common name, followed by Anna and Kristín.
