Two filmmakers at the German Stuttgart Media University have released a film to Youtube featuring ethereal Icelandic landscapes in 4K definition.
“Fjarst í eilífðarútsæ vakir eylenda þín,” a line from Western Icelander Stephan G. Stephansson’s most famous poem, gives the video its name: Eylenda.
Eylenda literally means ‘island’ and the cited line directly translates to: “Far in the eternal yonder sea your island wakes.”
Stephansson was born Stefán Guðmundur Guðmundsson in Iceland in 1853, but emigrated to Wisconsin at age 19, and later to Canada.
