Youth Association of Iceland Competes in Tournament

The 2008 Youth Association of Iceland (UMFÍ) tournament was launched in Thorlákshöfn in south Iceland yesterday. Teenagers, 11 to 18-year-olds, will compete in athletics, basket ball, chess, swimming, motorcross, wrestling and golf.

Organizers believe around 10,000 people will attend the tournament this weekend, Morgunbladid reports.

In preparation for the tournament, Thorlákshöfn constructed a new swimming pool and a new athletics field.

Booths will be open during the tournament offering refreshments or storytelling for the youngest visitors and promoting UMFÍ projects. Thorlákshöfn has also organized various cultural and artistic events to take place alongside the sporting events.
