Twenty-one-year old sheep farmer from Mjóafjörður fjord in the West Fjords and candidate for the Progressive Party, Jóhanna María Sigmundsdóttir, has become the youngest ever parliamentarian to be elected to Alþingi, the Icelandic parliament, after Saturday’s election.

Jóhanna broke the 79-year-old record of Gunnar Thoroddsen, the then 23-year-old Independence Party member, ruv.is reports.
Later Gunnar became Prime Minister; will Jóhanna follow in his footsteps?
After Saturday’s election, only three parliamentarians are younger than 30 while the oldest elected parliamentarian, who is 47 years older than Jóhanna, is her fellow party member, 68-year-old Sigrún Magnúsdóttir.
Jóhanna was elected chair of the Young Farmers Associations earlier this year.
