Young Men Convicted for Extensive Jewelry Theft

Two young men, aged 18 and 24, were recently given three and six-month suspended prison sentences for extensive theft. They were found guilty of breaking into four homes in Akureyri where they stole various valuable objects, including a large amount of jewelry, some pieces of which were antiques.

The loot also included an expensive television screen, computers, a camera and video camera, 150 souvenir spoons and tens of thousands in Icelandic and foreign currency. They also stole two types of blood pressure medicine and a sedative which also reduces allergic reactions, Fréttablaðið reports.

The perpetrators were caught following the police’s field investigation into the third breaking-and-entering. Part of the loot was recovered when they were searched and they confessed during questioning. While searching their home, more of the loot and eight cannabis plants were also found, for the possession of which they were also convicted.

The men both have a criminal history, variously severe in nature, though.
