East Iceland District Court handed a 60-day suspended sentence to a 19-year-old last week for distributing naked pictures of his ex-girlfriend online without her consent. He is to pay her ISK 250,000 (USD 1,800, EUR 1,700) in damages for the act of revenge pornography.
After the couple broke up, the man published naked pictures of his ex-girlfriend on his Facebook page, claiming that she had cheated on him. She had given the pictures to him while they were still together. She was 17 and the time and he was 18, ruv.is reports.
The man admitted to having posted the pictures on Facebook and thereby harmed her reputation. However, as it was an isolated incident and she had taken the pictures herself, he didn’t consider it to be serious. The judge disagreed.
The verdict took the young age of both the perpetrator and the victim into consideration. The defendant is also to cover ISK 617,000 in legal costs.
