Young Basketballers Sell Seafood by Ísafjördur Docks

Hlynur Hreinsson and Sigmundur Helgason, teenagers from Ísafjördur in the West Fjords who recently entered the Icelandic premiere league in basketball, have opened a sales booth by the town’s harbor where they sell seafood dishes to locals and tourists.

“The idea is to give foreigners a chance to taste Icelandic food,” Helgason told Morgunbladid. Peppered plokkfiskur, a fish and potato casserole, is the hottest item on the menu, but they also serve shrimp burgers and other seafood dishes.

One native tasted their plokkfiskur while they were being interviewed and confirmed that it was true to the local recipe. “It is a good experience and fun to try out. Hopefully, we will earn some money as well,” Helgason said of their business.

The young entrepreneurs must practice this summer so that they will be fit to play when the next basketball season begins in the autumn and so their parents have promised to fill in for them at the docks.
