Young Artists Celebrate Summer Achievements

“Vaengjasláttur” (“Flapping of Wings”) is the harvest festival for the Hitt húsid youth culture center’s Creative Summer Groups. At the festival, which takes place on July 15, all groups will show an example of their achievements this summer. Admission is free.

Among the projects was a street theater on June 17, Iceland’s Independence Day.

Hitt Húsid is a cultural and information centre for young people between the ages of 16 and 25. One of the numerous projects that Hitt Húsid holds are the Creative Summer Groups which are operated over the summer each year.

Young people are given the chance to apply for work at Hitt Húsid where they can put forward their ideas for a creative summer project. Successful groups or individuals then get the opportunity to develop and work on their projects for eight weeks.

The projects are very diverse, creative and enjoyable and were visible to pedestrians and people around the city of Reykjavík on Fridays and special occasions this summer. The harvest festival begins at 8 pm on July 15 and takes place inside Reykjavík City Hall.
