Writer Andri Snær Magnason Runs for President

Yesterday, writer Andri Snær Magnason announced he’s running for the position of president of Iceland. The election will be held in June. He made the announcement to a full house at the National Theater in Reykjavík and described his agenda as threefold:

“I wonder what our generation stands for, what legacy we want to leave behind … I wanted to set forth large ideas. Then a national park is an idea I regard as the equivalent of extending the borders of our territorial waters, something that serves the whole nation and would spread our good reputation worldwide.”

His second goal is completing the process of writing a new constitution, and the third issue he wants to fight for is the Icelandic language and making sure that the children of immigrants master Icelandic, in addition to their mother tongue.

Andri Snær is the 14th person to enter the field of candidates for the presidency.
