World record in tunnel drilling?

Drill No. 2 at Kárahnjúkar dam in the eastern highland probably broke a world record in tunnel drilling on Saturday when it drilled 106.12 meters in 24 hours. The previous record was held by the same drill; 92 meters in 24 hours in June 2006.

According to Ómar R. Valdimarsson, the spokesman for Impreglio, it cannot be confirmed at the moment whether the drilling achievement this Saturday is a world record, but the case is being researched, Morgunbladid reports.

“People are very pleased up there. I suppose we’ll open one or two champagne bottles once this has been confirmed,” Valdimarsson said, adding they would probably receive a confirmation today.
