World Champion in Flying Pace Gets Hilux

If the world record in flying pace is broken in the upcoming Horse Festival in Hella, south Iceland, June 30 to July 6, the sponsor Toyota will grant the winner a specially-equipped Toyota Hilux Adventure pickup worth ISK 4.3 million (USD 53,000, EUR 34,000).

Festival organizer Sigurdur Aevarsson told Fréttabladid it is probable that a new world record in the flying pace will be set during the tournament. The current world champion, Icelandic mare Drífa, and her rider Sigurdur Sigurdsson will participate in this year’s tournament.

Drífa set a new world record in the flying pace last year with 7.18 seconds and her best time this year is 7.36. “So we only need to snap our fingers and we have a new world record,” Aevarsson said, adding that the anticipation for the 2008 Horse Festival is electric.
