World Carfree Day Marked in Reykjavík

World Carfree Day is being marked in Iceland with the closure of Laugavegur and Skólavörðustígur from Bergstaðstræti, Lækjargata between Vonarstræti and Hverfisgata, as well as Bankastræti and Pósthússtræti in downtown Reykjavík, visir.is reports.

World Carfree Day aims to “remind the world that we don’t have to accept our car-dominated society,” according to the network’s website.

The Reykjavík City Council encourages people to leave their cars at home today.
