World’s fastest amputee visits Iceland

South African amputee Oscar Pistorius is currently in Iceland participating in a project with the orthopedic company Össur hf. Due to a birth defect Pistorius lost both his legs at a young age, but is now the world’s fastest amputee.

Pistorius holds the world record in 100, 200 and 400-meter race in the category of amputees, using Cheetah Flex-Foot legs developed by Össur. He aims at participating in the Olympics in China next year.

Pistorius will work alongside orthopedic experts and be present when Icelandic amputees are trained with running legs from Össur. He will also participate in the 400-meter race at the Youth Association of Iceland’s (UMFÍ) national sports tournament in Reykjavík’s suburb of Kópavogur tomorrow.
