The Icelandic Workers Union claims Impreglio, the Italian contractor for the Káranjukar dam project in East Iceland, has shown repeatedly that they “have little interest in working within limits set by unions.”
The union publication, Vinum (Work) stated “Impreglio has refused employment of people from Nordic countries” in favour of workers from countries that pay employees poorly.” The Union went on to state that the practices of the company of gotten worse, so that now they are swapping out Europeans for workers from the poorest countries in the world.
Impreglio caused an uproar in parliament last week when they refused to meet with key Ministers regarding treatment of workers.
