Woolen sweater smugglers convicted

Two Peruvian men were convicted at the District Court of East Iceland yesterday for trying to smuggle about 1,000 woolen sweaters and 1,300 CDs into Iceland.

The men also tried to smuggle about 200 woolen hats, a few scarves, ten pairs of mittens and other kinds of woolen products into the country. Fréttabladid reports.

The Peruvians arrived with the ferry Norraena to east Iceland in September. Customs officers found the woolen goods and the CDs in their Fiat.

The Court ruled that the woolen sweater smugglers should pay fines to the state treasury, or else serve time in prison for two and 12 days.
