The goal of the Women’s Run has always been to encourage and enable women of all ages to exercise more and generally improve their health, not only on that day but on every day of the year.
The first Women’s Run took place in Gardabaer in 1990 with approximately 2,500 women participating. In the twenty years that have passed since then, the participation has multiplied and now the Run is among Iceland’s most popular public sporting events. It even has spread to other countries, for example Australia.
