Women’s Football Team Beats Serbia 4-0

The Icelandic women’s football team played Serbia in Belgrade yesterday. Despite unfavorable weather conditions for the Icelandic girls, the Serbian team never stood a chance.

The match was played in 37ºC weather in full sun. The Serbian organizers moved the game, which was supposed to be held in the evening, to midday. This had no effect whatsoever on the Icelandic team. Margrét Lára Vidarsdóttir scored a goal after only four minutes of play. The other three goals came in the second half of the game. Mbl.is reports.

Katrín Ómarsdóttir played her first match with the Icelandic team yesterday and scored the second goal after only one minute of play and with her second time with the ball.

By beating Serbia last night the Icelandic team is still in the running towards a place in the European Championships. The Icelandic team will play against Slovenia in June.
