Woman seriously injured following manslaughter attempt

A woman was admitted to the Akureyri Regional Hospital last night with serious stab wounds and burns, following attempted manslaughter and arson in the village of Húsavík, north Iceland. Another man is also injured due to stab wounds. A suspect attacked police with a knife at the scene, but was overpowered and is now in custody. This is reported by Morgunbladid and VÍSIR online.

Emergency services received two calls at approximately 11 pm last night, one from a woman who said she had been stabbed, and the other from a man who had also been stabbed but had been able to get to the next house. Police arrived on the scene some four to five minutes later, and saw that fire had come up in the house where the alleged assault had taken place.

Police managed to rescue the woman who was still in the house and unconscious from smoke inhalation. She was suffering from a life-threatening stab wound to the back and serious burns. The alleged attacker, who is known to police, arrived on the scene wielding a knife. He was intoxicated and had reportedly been drinking with the two victims earlier that evening. The matter is under investigation.
