The Capital Region Fire Department was called out on three occasions to extinguish fires in withered grass yesterday. Fire fighters reacted quickly and managed to extinguish the fires before they caused much damage.
One of the fires was started near the farm Hvammur in Heidmörk, an outdoor recreational area. Another fire was raging in withered grass outside the Reykjavík suburb of Gardabaer and had nearly reached inhabited buildings, Fréttabladid reports.
The third fire was started near the horse stable area outside Hafnarfjördur, a neighboring town of Reykjavík. Some believe burning withered grass helps new grass to grow.
