The Icelandic Met Office and the Icelandic Road Administration have issued weather warnings for North Iceland, from Skagafjörður in the west to Reyðarfjörður in the east, indicating that snow and winter driving conditions are expected today, particularly at higher elevations (200 – 300 meters/650-1,000 ft).
According to the announcement on the Met Office website, precipitation is expected throughout the region, which may turn to snow on elevated mountain roads. Ice may also form on roadways. Drivers are reminded that weather conditions can deteriorate quickly and are urged to be sure that their cars are equipped for winter driving before setting out in this area.
The road administration has been clearing roads of snow since last night, according to RÚV, and reports winter conditions throughout the Mývatn area, as well as ice on road 862, which leads to Dettifoss waterfall.
