Winter Solstice Today, Brighter Times Ahead

Today is winter solstice, the shortest day of the year.

The sun rises at 11:31 am in Reykjavík, and sets at 3:29 pm.

In Akureyri, sunrise is at 11:50 am, and sunset at 2:40 pm.

There are brighter times ahead. On January 1, ten days from now, sunrise in Reykjavík will be at 11:28 am and sunset at 3:43 pm, allowing the residents of the capital city to enjoy 17 more minutes of daylight than today.

The residents of Akureyri have even more to look forward to. Ten days from now, they will see the sun rise at 11:43 am and set at 2:57 pm. Thus, they will gain 24 minutes of daylight in only ten days.

Let’s focus on the bright side.
