Winter Hits Iceland with Storm and Snowfall

By Iceland Review

Winter has arrived in Iceland judging by the current road conditions in the West Fjords and on mountain passes in West and Northwest Iceland. Snow cover and snow drifts have been reported, as well as slippery conditions and icy patches, reports.

Commuters driving between Reykjavík and Akureyri should note that the Ring Road across the mountain passes Holtavörðuheiði, Vatnsskarð and Öxnadalsheiði are icy—most cars are still equipped with summer tires unsuited for slippery conditions.

The Icelandic Met Office has issued a warning of strong gale wind of more than 20 meters per second with sleet or snow in North Iceland in the next 24 hours, valid until 6 pm tomorrow.
