The forthcoming annual winter festival Éljagangur (“intermittent snowstorms”) will be held in Akureyri, the largest town in north Iceland, February 10-13. The program promises various winter activities and “cool” events and exhibitions for the entire family.

These include a march with flashlights and a snow obstacle race at the local ski resort, Mt. Hlídarfjall, ski-doo race and ice cross at the Leirutjörn pond, a fat snowman on Rádhústorg square, an ice sculpture outside the new culture house Hof, toboggan tours on behalf of Kaldbaksferdir and EY-LÍV’s annual winter sport expo.
According to a press release, preparations are well underway and there is plenty of snow.
The festival is held by Hlídarfjall, EY-LÍV, the Akureyri Region Business Agency, Visit Akureyri and Blek design and supported by a number of companies and associations.
