Winner of “untamed” beauty pageant announced

A 65-year-old woman from Ísafjördur, capital of Iceland’s Westfjords, won the title “untamed beauty 2007” in an unorthodox beauty pageant held in the neighboring town Hnífsdalur on Wednesday.

The winner’s name, Ásta Dóra Egilsdóttir, was picked from a hat, because the judges decided it was not possible to compete in untamed beauty, no more than in traditional beauty pageants, as RÚV reports.

Thirteen individuals of both sexes and several nationalities competed for different titles and all contestants received an award.

The pageant was held as an alternative to traditional beauty pageants to demonstrate that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

All profits will go to Sólstadir, a new sister foundation to Stígamót (Icelandic Counseling and Information Center for Survivors of Sexual Violence) in the Westfjords.
