White-Nationalists March Toward Statue of Icelandic Viking

The neo-nazi group “Keystone United“ marched on Saturday through the streets of Philadelphia toward a statue of Icelandic Viking Þorfinnur karlsefni. FOX News reports (via RÚV).

Keystone United were met by counter-protestors near the statue of Þorfinnur without any conflict. Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney spoke to FOX about the incident.

“It’s disgusting we have a president that will not decry white supremacy or neo-Nazis but will pick on a football player taking a knee in order to obtain for justice for people of color,” Mayor Kenney said. “We’re in a really bad situation in our country right now; however, the first amendment is the first amendment, so these idiots have the right to protest if they choose to.”

Þorfinnur‘s statue, as well as statues of other Icelandic Vikings, have been defaced and damaged in the United States for the past weeks, in protest against white supremacy. Leifur Eiríksson’s statue, for instance, bore the words “Discoverer of America“, which had been painted over by protesters.

Þorfinnur Karlsefni followed Leifur when they discovered America sometime around the year 1010. Þorfinnur and his wife Guðríður lived in America for a few years and bore a son called Snorri, believed to be the first white child to have been born in America.
