The list of best-selling books in Iceland (until December 24) was recently published. For the first time in 15 years, crime writer Arnaldur Indriðason is not number one.

Number one is the unforeseen hit; Gísli á Uppsölum by Ingibjörg Reynisdóttir, biography of a lone farmer in the West Fjords, somewhat of a freak, who died almost thirty years ago.

Top five books:

1. Gísli á Uppsölum by Ingibjörg Reynisdóttir (biography)

2. Reykjavíkurnætur by Arnaldur Indriðason (crime fiction)

3. Kuldi by Yrsa Sigurðardóttir (crime fiction)

4. Hárið by Theodóra Mjöll (about hair styling)

5. Ósjálfrátt by Auður Jónsdóttir. (fiction)
