Whaling Recommenced

Two whaling ships, Hvalur 8 and Hvalur 9, headed out to fish last night, approximately ten days later than scheduled, visir.is reports. They had been kept in the shipyard for a few weeks and were test-sailed last week.

Kristján Loftsson of whale catching company Hvalur hf has said that they will attempt to catch this year’s quota despite uncertainty regarding the future of whaling.

The quota allows for a total of 150 finbacks, in addition to the 25 remaining from last year’s quota.
