Whaler sets out to sea

The whaler Hvalur 9 leaves Reykjavík harbor today and sets out to sea. It does not have permission to hunt whale, but will test its engines.

The director of the ship, Kristján Loftsson, says it has been fully manned; he would not set out to sea otherwise. Morgunbladid reports.

The crew used to hunt whales before whaling was prohibited 17 years ago. Loftsson told Morgunbladid he is certain whaling will soon be allowed again.

Fréttabladid reports that Robert Rangeley, head of the Atlantic department of the World Wildlife Fund, does not oppose commercial whaling.
