Southeast Iceland is experiencing rainy conditions today, a prelude as to what’s coming this weekend. Similar weather has affected the Eastfjords, where sustained showers are forecast tomorrow.
As reported by RÚV, the wet weather is being driven by a slow-moving low-pressure system over the Greenland Sea, which is now gradually shifting eastward across the country.
The trailing edge of the system is bringing with it cool southerly winds and significant rainfall.
According to a meteorologist at the Icelandic Meteorological Office, this precipitation is likely to persist throughout the day.

Elsewhere in the country has experienced milder southwesterly breezes, accompanied by scattered showers, particularly in the western regions.
Weekend weather
Looking ahead to Saturday, the forecast points to cooler conditions and partly cloudy skies, with the possibility of occasional light rain. Temperatures will range from 8 to 14 degrees celsius.
Sunday will bring similar weather, although rainfall is set to return to the southeast.
