Wet Conditions Make West Iceland Glacier Impassible

Snaefellsjökull glacier, located on the tip of Snaefellsnes peninsula in west Iceland, has become impassible because of wet conditions. Rain has created slush and crevices, making it very dangerous to travel on the glacier.

Local travel company Snjófell has canceled all glacier tours and advised people from hiking to Snaefellsjökull by themselves, ruv.is reports.

Sverrir Hermannsson, who operates Snjófell, said there are no signs to warn tourists about the current dangerous conditions of the glacier and recommended such signs be established.
