West Ham CEO says news about Gudjohnsen exaggerated

West Ham CEO, the Icelander Eggert Magnússon, claims news about the football club recruiting Icelandic footballer Eidur Smári Gudjohnsen, who plays for Barcelona, has been exaggerated at best, that it had been cooked up by the British media.

Magnússon said in an interview with Fréttabladid yesterday that no delegation had traveled to Barcelona to negotiate on behalf of West Ham with Gudjohnsen.

“This is just sheer nonsense like most things reported in these newspapers out here [in the UK],” Magnússon said. “Discussions have taken place, but that is all I have to say about this case at the moment. […] There are still two weeks left of the club transfer window.”

Eggert Skúlason, Gudjohnsen’s PR, told Fréttabladid the footballer is currently injured and that all he can think about right now is getting well. Gudjohnsen may need surgery in which case he could not play for a month.

Gudjohnson himself has always said that he is going to fight for his place at Barcelona.
