West Fjords Music Festival Held at Easter

The West Fjords music festival Aldrei fór ég sudur (“I never went south”) will be held for the eighth time this year. As always, the festival will be free of charge and take place in Ísafjördur during the Easter holidays, this year from April 21-23.

A previous festival. From Altantica, No. 2, 2011.

According to local news website bb.is, the festival will include 25 musical events, including concerts by FM Belfast, Miri, Mr. Silla, Pétur Ben and Lars Duppler from Germany. The final lineup was announced last week.

Aldrei fór ég sudur is featured in the latest issue of Atlantica (a sister publication of Iceland Review) where Mugison, one of the festival’s founders, describes its concept thus:

“We thought, how funny would it be to have a festival where there was no sound check, where every band had to just plug in and play—whether you were múm or some old guy on an accordion—where everybody was equal in a way.”

In other music news, two festivals will be held in the capital over the weekend of April 15-17, Reykjavík Music Mess and the Reykjavík Blues Festival.
