West Fjords Music Festival Awarded

Gudmundur M. Kristjánsson, a.k.a. Muggur, was given the Eyrrarósin award from Iceland’s First Lady Dorrit Moussaieff yesterday for organizing the music festival Aldrei fór ég sudur (“I never went south”) in the West Fjords with his son Mugison.

Mugison, or Örn Elías Gudmundsson, is on tour in the Netherlands and could therefore not attend the award ceremony yesterday, Morgunbladid reports.

The father and son received ISK 1.5 million (USD 24,000, EUR 16,000) with the Eyrarrósin award, and Muggur said the money would come in handy for organizing the next festival.

The next Aldrei fór ég sudur festival will be held in March, on Good Friday and the Saturday before Easter Sunday.

Eyrarrósin is an acknowledgement for outstanding cultural initiatives outside Iceland’s capital region, granted by the Reykjavík Art Festival, the Institute of Regional Development and Air Iceland.

Iceland’s First Lady Dorrit Moussaieff is the patron of the award.
