Website Launched on Free Things to Do in Reykjavík

A new travel website on Iceland, freecitytravel.com, was launched this week. The site focuses on things than can be done for free in Iceland’s capital: various indoor and outdoor activities, museums that don’t charge admission and more.

“I’ve been working on this website since April and it has been incredibly fun,” the website’s creator Inga Jessen told Morgunbladid.

When Jessen, who is an economist, lost her job she started to look for free activities that she could participate in to pass her time and the idea for the website was born.

“With this I would also like to say to those who are unemployed that anything is possible and that giving up is not an option,” Jessen added. “I took all the pictures myself and wrote all the text. Even though you’re unemployed you can always find something interesting to do.”

Jessen’s brother-in-law, who is a programmer, helped her launch the website. The first edition is in English and is designed for foreign tourists, but an Icelandic version is in the pipelines.

Jessen also dreams of launching related websites with free things to do in foreign cities, such as Copenhagen.
