The Holuhraun eruption seems brighter on webcams than it has been lately. Last night some people thought a new fissure might have opened up. This is not the case.
Geophysicist Magnús Tumi Guðmundsson told mbl.is that the lava flowing from the craters now runs into Jökulsá á Fjöllum glacial river. This creates a glow that lights up vapor in the dark. “The vapor looks like smoke from the volcano.”
At the moment (Wednesday night) it is quite windy and one of the webcams is shaking in the storm.
The lava flow continues at a near constant rate and the area covered by the lava is now close to 50 square kilometers (20 square miles).
