Weather Warning for Northeast and East Iceland

The Icelandic Met Office has issued a gale warning for Northeast and East Iceland today. Westerly winds, 15-25 meters per second, are expected in those areas with snow and blowing snow in the northeast. Decreasing winds tonight.

North Iceland received a large amount of snowfall overnight. Blowing snow is expected in mountain passes and by Mývatn lake in the north. Wind gusts could be as strong as 40 meters per second in fjord bottoms from Hamarsfjörður to Borgarfjörður eystri, in the East Fjords.

Some schools in the northeast are closed today.
