Weather Warning for South and West

The Icelandic Met Office has issued a warning for the south and west coasts of Iceland today, as well as for the highlands. Strong gales from the southwest are expected in those areas, 13-23 m/sec, windiest by the southwest coast. Heavy rain is expected in the southeast.

Southeast 10-18 m/sec and rain is expected in the southeast tomorrow, but 5-13 m/sec elsewhere. Temperatures will range from 7 to 16 degrees, mildest in the northeast.

On their Facebook page, the West Iceland Police ask motorists to show caution while the storm goes through the area, especially near Hafnarfjall mountain, where wind gusts can reach up to 46 m/sec. In this weather, police strongly advice against traveling with trailers or in RVs.

The Icelandic Road Administration reports of wind gusts of up to 45 m/sec near Hafnarfjall, Kjalarnes and in the north part of the Snæfellsnes peninsula.
