Weather to Warm after the Weekend, Meteorologists Say

Following unseasonably cold weather in North and East Iceland – which recently saw temperatures dip below freezing in Akureyri – meteorologists expect the weather to improve after the weekend.

“We expect the northerly winds to slowly subside going into the weekend,” Eiríkur Örn Jóhannesson at the Icelandic Meteorological Office stated. “On Sunday, southerly and westerly winds are expected to bring warmer temperatures, especially in North Iceland.”

According to Eiríkur, temperatures around Iceland are expected to rise to two-digit figures early next week, to ca. 13-14°C, with intermittent showers. “That’s pretty good for summer in Iceland,” Eiríkur remarked.

Next Wednesday should see temperatures rise to 14°C in the Greater Reykjavík Area.
