Warning Signs on Reynisfjara Beach

Today is the last day police will stand watch on Reynisfjara beach, South Iceland, following the death of a Chinese tourist, who was swept out to sea by a wave on February 10. Two new signs, warning of the danger of large waves, will be put up tomorrow, RÚV reports, one in the parking lot, the other one on the beach.

Following the fatal accident, the decision was made to have a police officer on duty on the beach and to work on a new risk assessment and action plan. The risk assessment will be ready soon, according to the South Iceland police. The idea is to assess other dangerous tourist destinations the same way.
