Warmest May Since 1960

The average temperature in Reykjavik in May has been 8.4ºC. With this average it may be that this May turns out to be the warmest May since 1960, when the average temperature was 8.7 ºC.

In comparison, the average temperature in Reykjavík in May from 1961-1990 was 6.3ºC.

Sigurdur Thór Gudjónsson, a weather blogger, told Morgunbladid that that the explanation for such a high average temperature this year was because there have not been any cold snaps in May. But sudden cold snaps, even with frost are common in this month.
