Temperatures reached 16 C in Reykjavík, the hottest so far this year according to the the Icelandic Meteorological Office. This is not the only scorcher so far, a few days earlier the mercury rose to 22 C at Hjarðarland close to world famous hot spring Geysir.
Icelanders braved the elements and flocked to the many public, outdoor swimming pools in Reykjavík and basked in the sunshine downtown at Austurvöllur.
