Warm Welcome for Refugee Family

Súðavík residents organized a welcome reception for a newly-arrived refugee family yesterday, RÚV reports. The family, consisting of a mother and her five children, arrived in Iceland from Jordan last Wednesday. Their first few days in Súðavík, a small community in the West Fjords, were spent getting settled. Yesterday the Súðavík division of the Icelandic Red Cross invited the family to coffee, complete with pancakes and traditional Icelandic rjómaterta (cream cake). The town’s mayor formally welcomed the family into the community with the help of an interpreter.
