Warm and Sunny Weather in South Iceland

The weather is certainly summery in Iceland at the moment, especially in the south where the temperature came close to 20°C yesterday. Meteorologists are predicting continued warm and sunny weather in most parts of the country over the weekend.

According to forecasts, the weather will be least favorable in southeast Iceland. In other parts of the country the heat will range from 15-20°C (59-68°F). However, on Sunday, the temperature is predicted to drop, Morgunbladid reports.

In Reykjavík, people crowded the beach in Nauthólsvík, took it easy on the green Austurvöllur square in the city center, had ice cream and went swimming. At some companies employees were given the day off because of the sunny weather.

Meteorologist Einar Sveinbjörnsson said it is unusual that temperatures are rising although the wind is coming from the north and northeast.

The reason is a warm air mass to the west and northwest of Iceland, which can easily drift across the country in such circumstances, he explained.
