A man who was wanted by the Capital Region Police and considered dangerous managed to escape the country last night via Keflavík International Airport because police failed to notify airport security of his status.
“We planned to let them know about him and of course that would have been wise, but that is just the way it goes,” deputy chief Sigurbjörn Vídir Eggertsson told Fréttabladid, adding that police had little time to inform the airport.
According to RÚV, the police are planning to review methodology in cases like these to prevent such mistakes from reoccurring.
The man who escaped is suspected to have participated in a major assault in Reykjavík last weekend.
